QS Aminu Abubakar Suleiman, FNIQS
Dear Igala/Bassa Brethren,
A woman’s economic empowerment is not just a benefit to the woman herself; it is an investment in families, communities and the future of our society.
Across Kogi East, women contribute significantly to agriculture, trading, small businesses, local industries and household welfare. Many work tirelessly to sustain their families and contribute to the local economy. Yet, some continue to face barriers such as limited access to finance, inadequate business support, insufficient training and restricted opportunities for enterprise development.
Under Pillar Two of The People’s Mandate, Inclusive Economic Opportunity recognises that women must have fair opportunities to participate in economic activities, develop their enterprises and translate their hard work into sustainable livelihoods.
As a senator, QS Aminu Abubakar Suleiman will champion legislative initiatives, policy advocacy and oversight that advance opportunities for women-owned enterprises. This includes promoting access to affordable finance and credit, skills acquisition, professional development, entrepreneurship support and markets for locally produced goods and services.
The objective is to encourage an economic environment where women with ideas and the determination to succeed can access relevant opportunities to establish businesses, expand existing enterprises, create employment and contribute more meaningfully to the development of Kogi East.
However, empowerment must go beyond announcing programmes. Relevant federal opportunities must be accessible, transparently administered and based on clear criteria, rather than being reserved for individuals with political connections. Through effective legislative oversight, the implementation of relevant programmes can be scrutinised to encourage fairness, accountability and measurable benefits.
When women have greater economic opportunities, families can become more financially secure, businesses can grow, and communities can benefit from increased productivity and enterprise.
This is the vision of Inclusive Economic Opportunity: a Kogi East where women are not left at the margins of economic development, but have fair opportunities to participate, contribute and prosper.
The People’s Mandate: Purposeful Representation. Strategic Legislation. Sustainable Development.
