Leadership in the Senate requires more than political ambition, popularity, or the desire to occupy public office. It demands professional competence, an understanding of governance, policy knowledge, accountability, and the ability to translate the people’s needs into effective legislation. Judged by these considerations, QS Aminu Abubakar Suleiman, FNIQS, stands out as one of the strongest candidates for the Kogi East senatorial seat in 2027.
As a Quantity Surveyor with experience in construction and project management, QS brings a professional background relevant to discussions about public expenditure, infrastructure development, project evaluation, and accountability. These are important considerations for a legislator expected to scrutinise budgets, examine government policies, and advocate for development that meets the needs of the people.
Beyond professional qualifications, preparation for the Senate requires a clear understanding of what the office entails. A senator does not personally execute every development project. The responsibility includes making laws, exercising oversight, scrutinising budgets, engaging relevant federal institutions, and ensuring that the interests of constituents receive adequate attention. Effective representation therefore requires both competence and a clear policy direction.
Through The People’s Mandate, QS has presented a framework built around four pillars: Responsive Legislation, Inclusive Economic Opportunity, Social Infrastructure, and People Centred Representation. These priorities provide a basis for evaluating his readiness to represent the diverse interests of the Igala and Bassa people.
The argument for QS is not simply that he wants to become senator, but that his professional background, experience, community engagement, and stated policy framework offer a compelling case for his preparedness. In a contest where the quality of representation matters, Kogi East deserves a candidate who understands both the expectations of the people and the responsibilities of the office.
For these reasons, I consider QS Aminu Abubakar Suleiman, FNIQS, the best prepared senatorial candidate for Kogi East in the 2027 election. This position should ultimately be judged against verifiable credentials, demonstrated service, the substance of his proposals, and his willingness to remain accountable to the electorate.
Beyond political ambition lies the greater responsibility of public service. The choice before Kogi East should be about more than who seeks the Senate seat; it should be about who is prepared to serve effectively, represent inclusively, and make the people’s mandate count.
