Some encounters leave impressions that no public speech can erase. Mine with QS Aminu Abubakar Suleiman, FNIQS, has been one of those rare experiences.

Before I came to know him as a political figure, I encountered him as a leader whose greatest lessons were not delivered from a podium but through personal example. Over the years, I have observed a man who treats prudence as a guiding principle, accountability as a personal obligation, responsibility as a sacred trust, and leadership as practical service rather than public performance.

In my interactions with him, he consistently reminded those around him that excellence is not accidental. He encouraged diligence over shortcuts, professionalism over mediocrity, honesty over convenience, and steadfastness over momentary applause. Personally, he challenged me to remain focused, uphold professional ethics and never compromise competence for popularity. Those conversations were not political; they were lessons in character. They reinforced my belief that leadership begins with personal discipline before it manifests in public office.

What impressed me even more was the culture he nurtures among those who work with him across different parts of Nigeria. From what I have observed, he expects commitment, integrity, accountability and results from his staff while giving them the confidence to grow professionally. He motivates rather than intimidates, corrects without humiliation, and leads by example instead of mere instruction. Such leadership is increasingly rare in both public and private institutions.

In an era where many acts of generosity are carefully choreographed for social media visibility, QS Aminu has, in my observation, chosen a different path. Much of what he has done for individuals and communities has taken place quietly, without cameras, hashtags or the pursuit of public validation. Across the nine local government areas of Kogi East, countless lives have been touched through acts of support, encouragement and empowerment that rarely make newspaper headlines because publicity has never appeared to be the primary objective.

Perhaps one of the least publicised aspects of his leadership is his commitment to creating opportunities for others. Throughout his entrepreneurial journey, he has provided employment opportunities to many qualified sons and daughters of Igala land within his companies, not as political patronage but as an investment in human capacity. Those opportunities have transformed families, built careers and restored hope to many young professionals, yet they have never been the subject of self-congratulatory campaigns.

To me, this quiet commitment speaks volumes. It reflects a philosophy that true service is measured not by the number of cameras present but by the number of lives positively affected. The most enduring legacies are often written in the private gratitude of people whose lives have been changed rather than in the fleeting applause of social media.

For these reasons, I consider QS Aminu Abubakar Suleiman not merely a successful professional or a senatorial aspirant, but a role model whose life demonstrates that competence and humility can coexist. He represents an asset to the Igala Kingdom—not because he seeks recognition, but because his influence has consistently produced value, inspired excellence and expanded opportunities for others.

It is from this personal conviction that I proceed to examine why his qualifications, leadership philosophy, humanitarian disposition and broad professional relationships deserve serious consideration as Kogi East prepares to make one of its most consequential political decisions in 2027.
